Peta
Fifth

For tonight’s May Day party I finally made, with instructions of my mum, my first tiramusu ever,
aiming of course to become the fifth person in the family to know how to make it drop dead delicious. :)

Sladka nedelja
Sweet Sunday

In nama res ni bilo žal. Dobro vedeti.

Tiramisu is one of my favourite desserts, at least when it is done by one of four of my relatives, so I don’t want to eat it outside, as it is hardly called tiramisu. But Miro and I took a risk today at El Clasico gostilna in Ljubljana and tried one, because a kind waiter assured us that they have a good one. We weren’t sorry at all. It came dangerously close to the homemade ones. Good to know.

Zdi se kot nedelja
Feels like Sunday

Sobota, ki jo zamenjujem za nedeljo.

A Saturday that I’m confusing it with a Sunday (because of the work free Friday).

Preroški zajtrk
Prophetic breakfast

Ob tej čudoviti slavnostni rdečkasti večerni svetlobi vsem skupaj čestitam ob dnevu upora proti okupatorju.

This is how you can be surprised by a hot, uh, really summery hot day, if you don’t take seriously enough a parasol stuck into prophetic breakfast made by Miro, that surprised and cheered me up when I stepped into kitchen today. Yes, one tiny parasol is enough to bring the heat. :)

But I did carry around with me a bunch of unnecessary things, as it soon turned out, an umbrella, cardigan and a light shawl, this is a force of a habit in the style we mustn’t be surprised by anything, it’s still April. :)

It was a beautiful work free day and it still is a gorgeous evening lighted by a special festive red sunlight, as we celebrate the Day of Uprising against Occupation (in 2nd WW).

Konec z rokavicami. Drugič.
End of gloves. Once again.

Kakor jih imam rada, take rokavice, kjer so prsti svobodni, pa obstaja meja, ki jo hitro presežem in rabim navadne rokavice. Sčasoma sem sicer razvila polno akrobatskih načinov ravnanja s fotoaparatom v takih primerih, ampak to ni to, možnosti so v vsakem primeru omejene.

Zgornje rokavice so rezultat.

I thought I was through with gloves for this season, especially because of the high temperatures in March, but I was wrong. I recruited them again in April, only the fingerless pairs of course.

As much as I love this kind, there is a line and I, unfortunately, I cross it quite quickly. But I’ve developed acrobatic ways to handle my camera on days that are too cold for fingerless gloves, but options are limited of course.

My mum has made special photo-gloves for my dad once, but I’m extra sensitive to cold, so I’ve been making up a suitable design for my photo-needs, too, with so complicated design growing in my head that I hardly dare to present it to her to help me knit them one day. :)

So, I remembered that I forgot to post what I made from this and this for Miro’s niece in February. Photos above are the result.

I asked my mum to help me make gloves similar to one of those that she had made me once, the kind that you can unfold them and cover your fingers if you want them to be a bit warmer.

For Miro’s niece I just chose a different colour and added some beads, all resembling the colour of the sea, because she spends most of the year close to it and I’m inclosing also one February colour-matching photo to this post to officially end the gloves season.

There are predictions of temperatures up to 28 ºC (=over 80 ºF) for the upcoming holidays here, so I think that now I can really put all my winter accessories away, hm? :)

Zid ljubezni
Wall of love

It was a really strange feeling when a wall grew up between us this weekend.

When we started building up our future home we already decided without any hesitation that we’ll half that room to have two separate working places, but now, after so much time when it actually came to realisation it grew to my heart, that spacious room, especially with that gorgeous afternoon light coming in from two sides, so I said to Miro a few times lately that I’ll miss it and that it’s still time to change our minds and leave it as it is.

But of course I aware that our decision about the dividing had a big point back then. It was all about practical reasons, especially because we’ve been squeezing like sardines in a can in our current working place for a long time now and because my glass colours need their own atelje with own doors to be shut when needed, as they aren’t very pleasant to live with at applying and drying.

After all there’s a piece of lone wolf in both of us and I’ve always felt that every person needs his own window and that the basic cell of society isn’t a family, but a person that can connect to others to create something beautiful and healthy only after being a whole unit for himself first.

So there it was, when we finally began putting bricks together and we stood one at each side of the wall, now already high enough just hardly to see each other over it, there was nothing but black humour in the air. We were mentioning Berlin, iron curtain and cooling down of relationships :) and when I asked Miro, if he’ll ever come to my side, the wall would have blushed and melted down, if only it had heard and understood his answer.

Zunaj grenko, notri sladko
Bitter outside, sweet inside

Mlečni riž (=milk rice) reminds me of childhood. These days it is rarely on the table, but when it is it’s still the same, just like my mum had been preparing it for me back then: rice cooked in milk with added cloves, cinnamon stick and peeled lemon zest. And to top it all, a chocolate powder that I used to (and still do) keep sprinkling over and over again when a previous layer ran out. :)

Aprilski ples
April dance

Rada imam take zgodbe o uspehu, usmerjene v prihodnosti in polne izzivov.

It’s so unjustly to mark April as the most unpopular month. To me it seems the most photogenic of all and it also seems to me some kind of… hm… shyly fresh, boldly green, elusively promising, rebelliously unpredictable and with a character so close to mine sometimes – capricious. :)

Just look to the sky. Today’s it was wonderful, different almost every minute. In the upper picture, taken in the morning, it was rather gloomy and in the afternoon the sun, clouds and raindrops danced together with all those young colours.

Ah, April, if there was no August I’d name my creations, AVGUSTvarjanja, after you! :)

Imagine how beautiful skies Matevž Lenarčič must have been experiencing on his 102 days long journey. I love such success stories, so forward-looking and full of challenges.

V rumeno
Into yellow

:)

Only flowers moving in a distance can tell you where the exploring nose of our wolf is heading to.

Bakreno. Okroglo. Oboje.
Copper. Round. Both.

Skrivnostno? V bistvu je samo stvar znanosti. In upanja.

Life is round, it spins around and is full of small, yet important details. Sometimes it is a tiniest thing that others take it for granted. For me it is wearing earrings again, especially after regularly wearing them in my teenage years and therefore having quite a collection back then and then in following years just admiring lucky others wearing them, while I’ve been giving away some of mine, throwing away the rest in anger and keeping only a few pairs as a memory or just in case if life turns around a bit.

The upper picture was taken in the church of sv. Frančišek (=St. Francis) in Ljubljana, made by our greatest architect Jože Plečnik. He was a master of details. He knew that they are the ones that make the whole building perfect, just like obstacles determine who we are.

For me the symbol of little victory and a new hope are these earrings that my sister brought for me from Bosnia recently. A tiny little detail, you might say, but so important for me.

Mysteriously? It’s just a matter of science really. And of hope.

Petek trinajsti
Friday the thirteenth

[Pogled mi neprestano uhaja k njej, ko to pišem, a pokažem vam jo šele, ko bo v njej rožica.]

When I picked up a package in a post office today I remembered that I missed my blog anniversary yesterday, so I quickly decided that the package content is the best gift for these two years – Tika’s little sphere! [I can’t take my eyes off of it while writing this, but I’m going to show it to you when it will host a plant.]

Knowing what I’m carrying under my arm made me very happy and I started to think that this is my lucky day, when I almost stepped into a dog poop, which I don’t know what was doing in the middle of a pavement anyway. So my advice to you today is this: watch your step, Friday the thirteenth’s not over yet! :)

So ribe tudi zavistne?
Can fish be envious, too?

Kljub temu, da imajo kratek spomin? :)

Even though they have a short memory? :)

Anyway, čemaž-leaves chopping for different culinary projects in the future,
including some fish ones obviously :), was going on,
but I definitely mustn’t forget to buy an extra pack of butter tomorrow to make this.

Bel konec tedna
White weekend

We had a very time-appropriate family breakfast today: eggs, smoked trout and horseradish. My mum always makes it with grated apple, grated egg and little soup, just like her mum did it. I like it so much that I always exaggerate with it and then I cry. :)

This weekend was white, because it was snowing (!) and it was white also today when Miro and I were on a walk, because the trees were snowing its flower buds.

It was a very refreshing walk. We picked our first čemaž this year to make some delicious butter by Miro. Unfortunately all beautiful magnolias are destroyed by the cold, but at least water is back [Zoja was jealously watching those kayakers who - unlike her - were aloud to go to the water :)].
