Planinsko polje

Before visiting Logatec on Sunday we spontaneously took a turn and made a bit longer way across Planinsko polje, which never ceases to fascinate us.

A big part of Slovenia’s territory is karst. Simplified it means we have a lot of underworld, in fact just recently, last month, they found and registered 10.000th cave. If you take into account that Slovenia measures only about 20.000 square kilometres that’s a big number.
Some of the most famous caves are Postojnska jama and Škocjanske jame.

Logatec also lies on karst area, so there you can find a lot of caves and other karst phenomena. One of them is Planinsko polje, mentioned above. It’s a karst-field by Planina village, situated south-east of Logatec and it is divided between Logatec, Postojna and Cerknica municipalities.

On Planinsko polje there are sinkholes, another karst phenomenon. Depending on a season the field changes from a lake to meadows with a Unica river swirling through with all the picturesque stages in-between.

It is true that our country is all green, but I’m so glad that I don’t take this for granted. And whenever we are wandering around Miro enthusiastically repeats the famous Lorca’s verse: »Verde que te quiero verde«.
