Še vedno nor
Still crazy

Naš dedek - skoraj devetdeset, pa še vedno nor! :)

Our grandpa - approaching ninety, yet still crazy! :)

Svet je lep
The world is beautiful

Harder than saying goodbye to my sister, who goes to live to the other part of the world, is saying goodbye to her after visiting us for some weeks in the most crucial and gentle part of my life.

But the world is wide. And our connection spreads like a fan across its endless skies. This is why it is even more beautiful.

[In the last photo there is a cute game of words; someone changed the name of the place into “the world is beautiful”.]

Ena lepa jesenska z mojo še lepšo mami. :)
Ujel naju je oči, uf, ja, v sedemdesetih!

One beautiful autumn photo with my even more beautiful mum. :)
Taken by my dad, phew, yes, in the seventies!

Bójte se!
Be afraid!

Lepi spomini! In babica je razturala, se ne hecam! :)

Na teh naših turnirji gre bolj za zabavo in druženje. (japajade!) :)

I noticed on one of the social networks a photo of two people eagerly playing billiard. And because our traditional whole-family tournament in this sport is approaching (and this is not a small deal at all; with a live stream that Miro installs, so that players who are currently free can watch developing of the tournament from the dining room), I understood that as a threat, of course.

So I am returning it; Miro and I, we have also been training!

Yes, my dad had constructed the pool table which was then made by his friend carpenter. I remember my sister and I weren’t even going to school yet, so he ordered a special, unique cues, and us two being hardly tall enough to reach the table. Nice memories! And our grandma was totally rocking it, not kidding! :)

The tournaments are more about fun and being together. (yeah, right!) :)

Januarske tri
Three from January

Cheering up for Tina Maze skiing at Zlata lisica world cup
while working in our still very camp-style future home. :)

njegova mama in ostale ženske nekoč prale perilo. Si kar ne upam predstavljati!
Grandpa has told me once that this concrete place with a spring water and a trough was the place
where his mother and other women in that time used to wash laundry. Can’t imagine, really!

Jajce, ocvrto v obliki srca in potreseno s sesekljanimi orehi po Mirovo.
Nikoli mi noče izdati, kako mu uspe narediti obliko, pravi le, da ni ponesreči. :)
Heart shaped fried egg with chopped walnuts, tomato and tartar sauce that Miro has made me a few times. He doesn’t want to tell me how he makes the shape, he just says it is not an accident. :)

Žurer
Party man

Whenever someone of my relatives celebrates something our grandpa disappears for the whole day and we all know that we mustn’t bother him at that time (even a phone call can be problematic). Even though we’re all very very grown already he doesn’t allow himself take away the pleasure of wrapping presents in all kind of tricky, naughty and puzzling way possible, just like a part of the latest one in the middle picture is, as he has been doing it forever.

Yes, our grandpa, already in the middle of eighties, is the centre of all our parties and he’s always the last one to leave. I’m already old enough to admire it in disbelief! :)

Dan, ki ga ni
The day that doesn't exist

The day that doesn’t exist is sunny and very tangible! :)

I picked this gorgeous three-quarter-sleeve blouse in chocolate, copper and beige shades with the most beautiful neckline out of my grandma’s stock of clothes and my sister brought me this cute good luck bracelet from Istanbul, Turkey. Juhej! – let the spring begin! :)

This day was more than evidently turned into reality by Lonca with her naughty behaviour. She was spinning around me with such a spring enthusiasm that she had been invading into sage bathing in the sun scene that I wanted to photograph, and at the same time also too quick in her elusive moves for me to at least caught her properly into the picture.

Navijanje
Winding

Krasna barva!

Priprava klobke me tako zelo spominja na otroštvo,
ko sem nemalokrat vrtela to staro mašinco. :)

Choosing the right colour out of my mum’s huge stock of yarn is always a difficult challenge,
especially if you’re not choosing for yourself.
I’ve had this sort of very deep green rolling in mind before,
but then my eyes were caught by this turquoise one. Just gorgeous!

Winding of yarn reminds me of childhood so much,
as I had been spinning this little old hand-winding machine quite often. :)

Preblisk iz osemdesetih
Eighties flashback

Obožujem to pesem!

[moj oči, navdušen ljubiteljski fotograf, je to sliko posnel še preden sta se poročila]

I love this song!

Because I remember how it was one of my mum’s favourites in eighties and how we three, together with my sister, we just couldn’t have enough of watching the video back then, whenever it started on tv.

This is for your upcoming birthday, mami! :)

[my dad, an enthusiastic photographer, had taken this picture of her before they were married]

Tole je ostalo...
This is what was left...

… od marmornega kolača, ki ga je zadnjič
po zapiskih svoje tašče, moje babi, spekla mami.

… of the marble cake that my mum baked the other day,
following her mother-in-law’s, my grandma’s, notes.

Staro, na novo oživljeno
Old, newly revived

Vintage. Te besede ne maram. No, ne same besede, ampak njenega pretiranega uporabljanja na vsakem koraku. In starinski videz.

In prav zaradi nemarnega svaljkanja te besede povsod in brez prestanka, se s prijateljicami že malo norca delamo.

Vintage. I don't like the word. Well, I don’t like excessive usage of it at every step. Just like the old things and old look are some new invention.

And because of the careless rolling of the word everywhere and all the time, my girl-friends and I are making jokes about that. For example we say to each other: Oh, you’re so vintage!
And yet you can not be offended, as the word is so in. :)

Because Miro and I don’t have enough money to buy ourselves a proper new car, we made a consolation out of that fact: we consider ourselves very cool, as we own a vintage car. :) Leave beside a tiny little fact that it would be even more expensive if it was really that old.

But anyway, I've liked old things for as long as I remember, especially if they have an emotional value.

This gorgeous crystal mug from Rogaška was given to us for our birthdays by my grandpa. His, or better my grandma’s, were also these dish cloths that I like so much.

Beautiful red vase I got from my mum, but originally it once belonged to grandma by my father’s side and I just saw it the other day on one of her shelves in an old photo.

Nedeljski trio
Sunday trio

:) [slika 1]

V kokosovem olju ocvrte cvetače, potresene s kumino, poprom, zeliščno soljo in kurkumo za kosilo. Njami! :) [slika 3]

Tokrat le ta trio utrinkov z današnje čudovite nedelje. Več posnetkov sledi v prihodnjih dneh.

Only a few years ago I found out for a distant relative of mine, who was an enthusiastic photographer, so today at the flea market, actually an antiques fair, in Ljubljana we bought a book, his photo-journal of the First World War. [picture 2]
There are really a lot of keen photographers in our family! :)

At the same time there was a medieval fair going on at the square across the river. It was fun, loud, colourful and so eye-catching! [picture 1]

In coconut oil fried cauliflower bouquets sprinkled with cumin, pepper, herbal salt and curcuma for lunch. Njami! [picture 3]

For now just this trio of captured moments from today’s wonderful Sunday. More photos to come in following days.

Odtenki zelene
Shades of green

At the beginning of a new school year when I was 10 years old a teacher told us to draw the forest on the hill that we saw from our windows.

We looked at each other with surprise in our eyes and we were all thinking - phew! what an easy task this is - as it was the time like this, when the tree-crowns didn’t get their autumn colours yet.

But when we coloured a few crowns she stopped us and then I got one of the lessons that stayed till now. She said to us, that we should look at the forest again and we’ll see that there are more shades of green in there than just one.

Portret moje sestre
Portrait of my sister

En mojih slikarskih poskusov

se je zgodil pred 14 leti,
ko sem sestri za rojstni dan podarila njen portret.

Grozdni krožnički
Little grape-plates

:) Vsekakor me mika že dalj časa.

I love little treasures so much, especially if they have emotional value.

These little wooden plates are from my late grandfather, who would now be over 100 years old already. Even though his profession was agriculture, he had this artistic gift – the paintings above are work of his hands and heart.

He mostly painted fruits, different kinds, even some that I didn’t know their names. Because he was also wine connoisseur I chose long ago to keep this wine set of 6+1 little plates (coasters) with grapes to decorate my kitchen.

Maybe AVGUSTvarjanja also lands on wood someday? :) It tempts me for quite some time, that is for sure.

Staro vabilo
Old invitation

Few months ago my grandpa showed me this invitation,
which I designed for his birthday party 14 years ago.

The time is just perfect to post this, since he’s celebrating again.
It’s so interesting to look back at what we have been creating! :)

At that time the invitations were printed on peach-pastel colored paper,
but for here I find it more suitable in original black-white version.

Zaspanka
Sleepyhead

[Korenine]*

Najraje ustvarjam v poznih urah. Ja, sem nočna ptica in tu nastane začaran krog! :)

---===---===---===---

Since I remember I was more sleepy kind of a person. I adore beautiful morning’s views, but I have lots of problems getting up early.

My days start slowly, but when I get the speed through the day I can’t be stopped easily. My best hours for creating are usually late at night. Yes, I’m a night bird. And there is the magic circle! :)

dokaz, ki potrjuje zgoraj napisano, iz časov tik preden sem postala šolarka – medtem, ko me mami češe, jaz niti ne vem zase;
a proof from my preschool period that confirms what is written above – while my mother combs my hair I am not even aware of myself:

*
[Korenine so otroštvo, družinska tradicija, predmeti, ki imajo posebno čustveno vrednost in dogodki, ki me zaznamujejo.

Srce

Če dobro pomislim, so korenine in srce eno in isto, korenine so v mojem srcu, srce pa poganja nove, sveže korenine.]

[Korenine are my roots, my childhood, family tradition; they are objects that have a special emotional value for me and events that have defined me somehow.
Srce is my heart, my present life, my ljubi, with objects which are important for our joined paths and moments that are bringing us even closer to each other.
On the second thought, the roots and the heart are basically one thing; the roots are in my heart and the heart is spreading new, fresh roots.]

Vse najboljše!
Happy Birthday!

Danes praznuje moja sestra.

In sem predlagala Pikapolonico. Staršema očitno ni bilo všeč.

Vse najboljše, Saša! Vseeno mi prinašaš srečo! :)

---===---===---===---

Today my sister is celebrating.

At this occasion I’ll repeat a well known little anecdote about naming her. When she was born my parents asked me how shall we name her.
As the German cartoon
Čebelica Maja (Maya the bee) was very popular at the time I thought if my name is the same like an insect, why wouldn’t she have it too – it’s quite logical! So I suggested Pikapolonica (Ladybird). Parents obviously didn’t like it.

Vse najboljše, Saša! You are bringing me luck anyway! :)

pri oblikovanju ovojnega papirja za darilo sem si znova pomagala z vzorčki AVGUSTvarjanj;
when I designed wrapping-paper for a gift I helped myself with AVGUSTvarjanja patterns again:

Korenine in srce
Roots and heart

[Korenine]

Ste opazili podnaslov mojega spletnika:

V
Koreninah bom objavljala vse, kar se tiče mojega otroštva, družinske tradicije; skratka predmetov, ki imajo zame posebno čustveno vrednost in dogodkov, ki so me nekako zaznamovali.

V

Če dobro pomislim, so korenine in srce eno in isto, korenine so v mojem srcu, srce pa poganja nove, sveže korenine.

Koreninami. Ker zelo cenim stare obrti in predvsem danes tako redke ročno izdelane predmete, mi veliko pomeni, da imam nekaj teh njegovih krtač tudi sama.

---===---===---===---

Have you noticed the subtitle of my blog:
od korenin do srca (“from my roots to the heart”)?

All from the start I had in mind a series of posts with a label
Korenine (The roots) or Srce (The heart).

In
Korenine I’ll post everything regarding my roots, family tradition, childhood, and so on - shortly: the objects that have a special emotional value for me and events that have defined me somehow.

The same structure will be in
Srce series, with exception that there will be everything regarding my present life, my heart, my Miro, with objects which are important for our joined paths and moments that are bringing us even closer to each other.

On the second thought, the roots and the heart are basically one thing; the roots are in my heart and the heart is spreading new, fresh roots.

Today, at the anniversary of death of my great-grandfather (on my mother’s side), I’m starting with
Korenine. He manufactured brushes and because I cherish old crafts and above all today so rare handmade objects it means a lot to me to own some of them.

največjo vrednost ima mala krtača, ki mi jo je naredil za darilo ob mojem rojstvu, z mojima inicialkama;
the most valuable brush for me is the one, which he made me for a gift at my birth, with my initials:

vse pradedkove krtače, ki jih imam za spomin (eno med njimi je Miro lani dobil v dar od mojega dedka, ki hrani krtače svojega očeta);
all great-grandfather’s brushes that I have (one of them is actually Miro’s; he got it last year as a gift from my grandfather, who kept remained brushes from his father):

pradedek med izdelovanjem krtač;
great-grandfather making brushes:

nekaj fotografij pradedka in mene s sredine sedemdesetih; umrl je, preden sem dopolnila 3 leta;
few photos from mid seventies of my great-grandfather and me; he died before I was 3 years old:

---===---===---===---

I will add those new labels “korenine” and “srce” also to two old posts: Čarovnije and Perspektiva that should also have them actually.
