Maksim Gaspari

V soboto sva si z Mirom ogledala
razstavo Maksima Gasparija na Bledu.

Sprehod med njegovimi slikami, ilustracijami
in razglednicami je bil čisti užitek.
Toliko vzorčkov, barv, tehnik in sporočilnosti,
toliko kombiniranja ljudske ornamentike
z dejstvi, verzi in ljudmi,
z zgodbami in liki iz knjig,
toliko poigravanja s političnimi karikaturami
za izražanje svojih stališč v ilustracijah.

Ker tudi sama nadvse rada brskam
po tej bogati ljudski zakladnici,
me njegovo ustvarjanje znova in znova navduši.

Če je Slovenija platno in so njene pokrajine barve,
vidim njegovo umetnost kot ornamente na njej.

On Saturday Miro and I went to Bled to see
an exhibition of Maksim Gaspari,

one of our great painters,
who lived between 1883 and 1980.

The artist painted mostly scenes from
Slovenian everyday life and nature.
He is known about his illustrated postcards
with historical and temporary motifs,
many times combined with his political views about the issues.
He also illustrated numberless books and magazines.

I’m again over and over impressed
with his rich palette of national folk ornaments
and their combinations with facts, stories
and characters from our books,
people from our history and verses,
since I also like to dig in this never-ending treasure.

A walk through his artworks was pure delight.
So many patterns, colours, techniques and messages!

If Slovenia is a painter’s canvas and our landscapes are colours,
I see his art as ornaments on it.

Obisk razstave zares toplo priporočam vsem!

I recommend a visit very much if you have a chance.

  1. Loving this art, especially the postcard style pieces. And the more serious looking art, with awesome whimsical lines and hearts in the background. Love!
